16th January 2010 - Severe storm, Tarago, NSW Click any image for much larger size The 16th January 2010 was shaping up to be a great day. For several days the models had been hinting at possible severe storms. It was a day that NSW storm chasers had been waiting all of this long poor season for, and for some such as myself and few lucky others, the day did not let us down.
After flanking around some rubbish we headed for
blue sky. By the time we reached the 'blue sky' target a nice
storm was rapidly developing near
Marulan We headed to a
known viewing spot NW of Marulan and watched this storm put out some
good lightning. Another storm developed to our NW and with rain
we had to go.
At Goulburn we
experienced more storms. Unfortunately we appeared to be one side of
town, while the storms trained on the other. See video below for
more from Goulburn. After a radar update we saw that there was a
stronger line of storms to our west. We determined that the
strongest part of the line would be near the small town of
Tarago. At Tarago we were rewarded with this lovely
shelf. The storm was moving very quick
and was obviously severe. There was visible rotation in this storm. A
