WINTER 2001

 

17th -18th August 2001 Gale Force Winds.

18th August - Winds were lighter overnight, but around 8am strengthened well above Gale force. By 10am winds estimated to be 50knots, with stronger gusts. Below are scenes at Lake Illawarra.

 

17th August - Gale force NW to SW winds overnight brought damage to the Illawarra region. Many suburbs experienced blackouts during the small hours of the morning following the passage of a strong cold front.

28th July 2001

East Coast Low

Gale to storm force winds stirred the seas off the Illawarra on the 27th & 28th July 2001. Seas peaked in the 20ft ( 6-7m ) range. Damage from both the wind and waves was minimal. A few trees and branches down.
