26th March 2008 - Offshore Lightning - Illawarra Coast

Offshore lightning show
Despite a sharp mid to upper trough storms were not expected on this day. By late evening however the lapse rate over the warm 22C ocean combined with the cool dry air aloft led to  weak but lightning active storms  50-75 kilometres offshore.

A full moon night may put nice reflections on the water, but that extra light also decreases expsoure times

Another storm almost 200 kilometres (150 miles)  away was strobing non stop
